Silver-plated embossed copper altar card, 18th century
An elegant altar card made of finely embossed and silvered copper, with a curved frame and rich ornamentation. The decoration, in a rocaille style, is characterized by leafy scrolls, scrolls, and plant motifs that intersect in lively movement. A lion-faced mask stands out at the top, while angelic heads are applied to the sides, typical elements of 18th-century devotional art.
The mirror inserted today is not original: the altar card originally held a liturgical text on parchment or cardboard, intended for use on home altars or private chapels. The surface retains traces of age-old patina, accentuating its value and historical character.
