Piero Fornasetti, “Tema e Variazioni” plate no. 334

Decorative porcelain plate from the *Tema e Variazioni* (Theme and Variations) series by Piero Fornasetti, Milan. The famous face of Lina Cavalieri is depicted with a finger held to her lips in an ironic gesture calling for silence. The black-and-white decoration—rendered using Fornasetti’s characteristic etched and stippled line work—transforms the 19th-century portrait into an image suspended between Classicism and Surrealism.
