Noce by Achille Castiglioni for Flos, 1972

Designed by Achille Castiglioni in 1972 for Flos, Noce is a lamp conceived as a small, robust, luminous volume that can be freely positioned in a space. It can be used on the floor, placed on a surface, or wall-mounted.

The structure is made of white-painted die-cast aluminum, featuring a distinctive domed, molded-glass diffuser with a dense prismatic ribbed pattern. Inside, two adjustable light sources allow the direction of the light to be modified.

The name "Noce" (Walnut) stems from Castiglioni’s idea of creating a sort of luminous stone—a compact object that could be placed freely, even on the floor. It is a deliberately solid, almost architectural lamp, where function and irony coexist with the designer's characteristic minimalism. Indeed, MoMA describes it as a "luminous stone."
