“Mini Totem” floor lamp, designed by Gianfranco Barbieri and Giorgio Marianelli for Tronconi in the 1980s.
Description:
• Design: iconic and minimal, deeply rooted in the postmodern aesthetic of the 1980s. The structure is composed of a thin vertical metal stem that supports a small, adjustable cylindrical projector.
• Colors: typically bright and contrasting, here with a bottle green body, black base and a fluorescent yellow detail on the front of the head, to emphasize the luminous element in a graphic way.
• Materials: painted metal and weighted cast iron base for stability.
• Distinctive feature: the small spotlight is adjustable in height along the rod thanks to a ring support, and can be oriented to direct the light — a functional yet playful solution, typical of the period.
Period and context:
Produced in the early 80s, this lamp represents the “techno-pop” approach of the time: essential shapes, strong chromatic accents and a desire to deconstruct functional objects in an ironic and graphic way. Barbieri and Marianelli, with Tronconi, were looking for light, dynamic lighting solutions, suitable for contemporary and flexible interiors.
