Luminous optometric table “Monoyer” – Sbisa Florence, 1960s
Original illuminated eye chart for professional medical use, Monoyer type, produced by Soisa Firenze in the 1960s.
Rectangular case designed for wall mounting, comprising:
– silkscreened glass front with decimal eye chart scale calibrated for 3 meters
– white painted sheet metal perimeter frame
– veneered wood panel rear body
– diffused internal lighting system with switch on the cord
The silkscreen bears the original wording "Decimal eye chart – Dr. Monoyer type – calculated for 3 meters," with progressive lateral markings (from 0.1 to 1.0) and alphabetic sequences according to the European ophthalmic standard.
From a construction standpoint, it is a technical object designed to ensure uniform lighting and constant readability, with soft light diffusion behind the opalized glass. Today, it maintains a strong graphic value thanks to the clean typography and the contrasting black on an ivory background.
Condition
Good overall condition with signs consistent with its age:
– Clear chip on one corner of the frame, exposing the underlying support
– Spot oxidation and wear along the metal profiles
– Minor marks on the glass and frame
– Electrical system present
