Glazed Ceramic Sculpture Lamp – 1940s/1950s

This striking glazed ceramic table lamp is modeled after a dynamic sculpture in which an animal figure—a stylized roe deer/gazelle—emerges with an elegant leap from a fluid movement of waves and swirls.
The shape is typical of European decorative art from the 1940s and early 1950s, with late Art Deco references and almost motion-sculptural lines.

The body is made of solid-body ceramic, entirely covered with a deep, glossy, almost metallic glaze in shades of petrol black, with moss green/aqua green highlights emerging on the most prominent parts. The shiny surface enhances the play of light produced by the bulb hidden inside the hollow base.

The light source is located at the bottom, creating an internal illumination effect that makes the sculpture's curves vibrate and emphasizes the animal's volumes. The lamp holder is made of vintage black Bakelite, secured to the ceramic with the original nut and washers.
