Original living room set from Gebrüder Thonet (Thonet Brothers), a historic Austrian manufacturer founded by Michael Thonet and continued by his sons. This set, consisting of two chairs and a sofa, is an emblematic example of Viennese production from the late 19th century, in full late Biedermeier/early Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style.
Characteristic elements:
• Brand: The manufacture is clearly attributable to Gebrüder Thonet, which in the period 1853–1900 became the most important European manufacturer of bentwood furniture.
• Technique:
• Structures in solid steam-bent beech, one of the key innovations introduced by Thonet to obtain sinuous and resistant shapes.
• Seats in hand-woven Vienna straw, light but sturdy.
• Design:
• The two-seater sofa features a rich motif of interwoven scrolls in the backrest, a distinctive element of Thonet production in the second half of the 19th century.
• The chairs feature the classic continuous backrest and integrated armrests, perfectly balanced in their curvature.
• Aesthetics: Fluid, light shapes that combine grace and functionality: the hallmark of Thonet design.
