Extendable round table in the Louis Philippe style, a 20th-century reinterpretation, likely made in Italy between the mid- and late-1900s.
Description
Dining table with a circular top that folds open like a book, composed of two semicircles that separate at the center for the insertion of an extension (or an opening to access the internal mechanism). The images show the central joint and the underlying natural wood structure.
The top features a contoured edge with a wavy under-top band, featuring a delicate wavy motif and small carved decorative elements.
The base is the true highlight:
• Turned and carved central leg, with acanthus leaf decorations and embossed plant motifs.
• Four wavy and curved feet with a scroll-like shape, also carved.
• Harmonious and slender proportions.
Finish
The table was treated with a pickled cream-white lacquer, with light abrasions intentionally left exposed to reveal the underlying wood, creating a weathered, textured effect. This type of finish evokes a shabby chic/Provençal style, while maintaining a more classic structure.
