Executive desk — Antonello Mosca for Sormani, Italy, 1970s
An elegant executive desk designed by Antonello Mosca for Sormani in the 1970s, it's a refined example of Italian office design of the time, characterized by a minimalist and strongly architectural language.
The large, suspended rectangular top, covered in light-colored laminate, rests on a central white lacquered metal structure with a three-spoke base that creates a visual balance between lightness and stability. The supporting structure is designed to leave the top free and visually light, emphasizing the purity of the lines.
The work surface features a suspended storage module with two drawers, designed to offer functionality without interrupting the clean lines of the design. On the opposite side, a free-standing compartment contributes to the sensation of lightness and depth.
A distinctive element of the model is the chrome-plated metal footrest bar inserted into the base, a typical detail of high-end executive desks from the 1970s, combining ergonomics and formal refinement.
The desk perfectly reflects Mosca's design approach for Sormani: rigorous lines, industrial materials, and a keen attention to functionality, qualities that make these pieces still extremely relevant today, both in professional and domestic settings.
