"Artona" dining table by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto, 1970s

This elegant dining table from the "Artona" series, designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto in the 1970s, is one of the most iconic Italian design collections of the period and one of the first designs from the brand, which began as a division of excellence within B&B Italia.

Made of veneered wood with sophisticated ebonized details, the table features a prominent square central base and a top with rounded corners, embellished with the typical concentric black trim at the edges, a distinctive feature of the Artona series.

The design perfectly reflects the Scarpas' aesthetic: a balance between architectural rigor and artisanal quality, with refined research into geometry, proportions, and surface design. The monolithic base, lightened by vertical details, and the thin top create an elegant contrast between solidity and lightness.
