Adjustable table mirror in chromed metal and Bakelite, 1930s–1940s
Elegant adjustable table mirror featuring a simple, geometric chromed metal frame with black Bakelite details. The extremely clean and architectural design recalls the European Rationalist and Art Deco tastes of the 1930s and early 1940s.
The mirror, trapezoidal in shape with rounded corners and an exposed beveled edge, is supported by a tilting structure that allows for different angles via the spherical side knobs. The black circular base, combined with the central chromed ball joint, gives the object an almost sculptural presence that remains very modern even today.
Particularly noteworthy are:
* the contrast between polished chrome and black Bakelite
* the irregular and sophisticated cut of the mirrored panel
* the extremely minimalist adjustable system
* the geometric construction typical of Deco-rationalist design
The overall effect is reminiscent of some French and Italian pieces of the period influenced by Streamline Modernism and early European industrial design.
Condition consistent with its age, with light oxidation and surface marks on the metal structure that contribute to the piece's authentic patina.
