Ingo Maurer's Bulb lamps are an icon of modern design, created in 1966.
The Bulb takes the shape of the classic incandescent light bulb, but in an enlarged version. The actual light bulb is housed inside a hand-blown glass structure that faithfully mirrors it.
The base is in chromed metal, often with a shiny and grooved finish, as seen in the image. The external bulb is in crystalline glass, hand-blown in Murano.
Playful and provocative, this lamp is a tribute to the light bulb itself, elevating it from a simple functional object to a decorative and artistic element.
The internal light source is visible, and the transparent glass amplifies the effect of the light, creating very particular reflections on the chrome surface.
Designer: Ingo Maurer, a German designer famous for his ironic, poetic and often experimental approach to light.
